Consultant as Communications Officer for Food System
Program Overview
The Food and Land Use (FOLU) Coalition, or called Koalisi Sistem Pangan Lestari (KSPL) in Indonesia, is a community of organisations and individuals committed to the urgent need to transform the way we produce and consume food and use our land for people, nature and climate. In Indonesia, FOLU is working on an Action Agenda document providing insight on pathway in transforming the way land is used and food is produced, up till it is marketed, consumed, and disposed of. It embraces the social, political, economic and environmental systems that influence and are influenced by those activities. A keep part of the discussion is the associated financing requirement and opportunities, considering the economic benefit of the discussed transformation pathway and policies derived.
Job Highlight
The Communications Officer for Food System will support the transformation towards sustainable food system under the FOLU Coalition alongside with the Communications Team. The key responsibilities is to implement the Sustainable Food System’s communications strategy, including developing communications materials, organizing events, engage with media, and overseeing social media campaigns. This position is also expected to provide support in writing, editing, and producing a wide range of internal and external communications materials in accordance with WRI Indonesia communications guidelines, and support other communications support as assigned.
The Communications Officer for Food System will report directly to the Senior Communications Coordinator while working closely and collaboratively with Sustainable Food System teams, FOLU Global Communications team, and the rest of WRI Indonesia Communications Team. Based in Jakarta with office-flex working arrangement, this position is expected to conduct travel.

What You Will Do
- Communications strategies implementation pertaining to KSPL and other sustainable food system related initiatives. The communications activities and creative campaigns include but not limited to communications materials development, event management, media engagement, video development, writing, and managing social media.
- Actively support the team to provide communications tools (slide deck, letters, etc) and ensure make sure the team equipped with the right and aligned messages through the right medium
- In coordination with WRI Indonesia and FOLU’s communications team to manage the implementation of communications strategies for reports, events, conferences, and news opportunities including media content
- Develop ideas, write, and edit a variety of internal and external materials, such as blog posts, media materials, newsletters, op-eds, website content, advertisements, videos, brochures, press releases, slide deck, letters, etc.
- Ensuring the communications products adhere to WRI’s and FOLU’s communications style guide and quality standards.
- Arrange and coordinate press events, including but not limited to: press conferences or media briefing for publication launches, round-table discussions, meetings, and other announcements
- Coordinate with third-party vendors and consultants
- Supporting other WRI Indonesia’s communications activities
What You Will Need
Required qualifications:
- Bachelors in communications, public relations, journalism, or other relevant fields.
- Minimum 3 (three) years of professional experience in communications.
- Experience and proven ability to communicate effectively with Indonesian government officials (national or sub-national);
- Ability to produce high-quality draft of basic communications product with strong proofreading and copy-editing skills.
- Adept in the use of Microsoft and other software tools: MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint, MS Teams, and common social media tools.
- Proven ability to work effectively in a fast-paced office environment, both independently and as part of a team.
- Strong inter-personal communication skills with the ability to foster collaboration across programs, international offices, and external partners.
- Solid understanding of social media platforms and how to leverage them to engage and influence target audiences.
- Adaptable to rapidly changing priorities and able to manage multiple deadlines while maintaining to deliver high quality work products.
- Proficiency in both Bahasa Indonesia and English on both written and verbal communications.
- Ability and willingness to travel as assigned
- Legally able to work in Indonesia.
Preferred qualifications:
- International experience or prior work in a global organization
- Experience in working with a content management system (CMS)
- Experience in working with reporters or members of the media (and established media contacts)
- Interest and experience in sustainability, food, or other environmental-related issues in Indonesia
- Having visual skills, such as photography, graphic design, and Adobe Photoshop
Deliverables
1. Monthly consolidated report consisting of work progress and achievement on the implementation of Sustainable Food System’s communications strategy
2. Planned communication materials (e.g., videos, press releases, blog posts, op-eds, website contents, slide decks, newsletters) are produces promptly and in accordance with WRI Indonesia's quality standards.
3. Social media-related strategies are executed as planned, including the development of social media plan, content creation, and evaluation reports on engagement, reach, and audience feedback.
4. Produce detailed analytical report from all communications activities
Durations
This position is expected to start immediately with an initial contract period up to 31 March 2025 with possibility of extension subject to performance, budget availability, and project needs.
Terms of Payment
Daily rate-based consultant with maximum of 18 (eighteen) working days per month
Contract Arrangement
Individual consultancy contract (Part-time, limited term)

Must have authorization to work in Indonesia to be eligible for this position.
